This piece, appropriate for late beginners and early intermediate piano students, has an eerie melody evoking the wanderings of a friendly ghost looking for someone to haunt. It is an excellent piece for practicing legato through fingering. It also incorporates  the 13th century Gregorian chant setting of the "Dies irae" ("Day of wrath") from the Latin Requium (Mass for the dead), making it a good pretext for a little music history.
